VRE: Amtrak Train Hit Trespasser on Tracks

Tuesday night accident delayed commuter trains on Manassas line.

An accident Tuesday evening involving a trespasser on the tracks caused delays in getting home for commuters on trains operated by the Virginia Railway Express (VRE).

An Amtrak train struck the trespasser on the CSX railroad tracks in Burke, VRE announced Wednesday. The trespasser fled the area after being struck, but Fairfax County police found him nearby and took him to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The incident caused delays Tuesday night for trains on VRE’s Manassas line while police investigated the accident, VRE said. The trains were running on schedule Wednesday.
