Water Damage Relief Coming in Fairfax: City Council

The Fairfax City Council has approved a plan to help homeowners and businesses with the cost of wastewater lateral repairs, with caveats.

FAIRFAX, VA — Homes or businesses in the city that suffer water damage are about to be provided relief on repair costs, according to the Fairfax City Council, which has approved just such a program.

Funds will be provided from a self-sustaining escrow account supported by customers with a charge added to their wastewater bills: $18 per year for single-family, townhouse and duplex property owners; and $36 annually for owners of apartment and condominium buildings; hotels and motels; and commercial or industrial facilities. These charges will be seen on bills beginning April 1.

  • 75 percent of customer’s actual payments up to $5,000 for replacements from dwelling or business unit entirely to the main;
  • 25 percent of customer’s actual payments up to $2,500 for repairs or replacements only within the right-of-way; and
  • 25 percent of customer’s actual payments up to $2,500 for repairs or replacements only within the private property and only for the entire length.
