Find Out What's Open And Closed In Fairfax City For Christmas 2021

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — With Christmas approaching and concerns about the growing number of new COVID-19 cases growing, families are tasked with modifying holiday plans to limit the chances of spreading the illness. One thing that remains the same is the closure or modification of many services in Fairfax City for the holiday.

Below are the openings and closings to know for Christmas around Fairfax City.

Fairfax City government offices: City government offices will close at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23. All offices will be closed on Friday, Dec. 24; Saturday, Dec. 25.; Friday, Dec. 31; and Saturday, Jan. 1.

Fairfax County government offices: County government offices will close at noon on Dec. 23 and be closed on Dec. 24.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Students have winter break from Dec. 20 to 31.

Courts: The Fairfax County General District Court, Circuit Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed on Dec. 23 and 24.

Historic Resources: Fairfax Museum Center and Historic Blenheim will be closed Thursday, Dec. 23; Friday, Dec. 24; Saturday, Dec. 25; Friday, Dec. 31; and Saturday, Jan. 1.

Animal shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter offers services by appointment only. Animal-related emergencies should be directed to Animal Protection Police at 703-691-2131.

Community Center: Reston Community Center-Hunter Woods is open on Thursday, Dec. 23, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 24, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 31, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; and Saturday, Jan. 1, from 12-5 p.m. RCC-Hunter Woods is closed on Saturday, Dec. 25. RCC-Lane Anne is closed on Dec. 23-25, and Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

Courts: Fairfax Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 24 and are closed on Nov. 25 and 26.

Department of Motor Vehicles: On Nov. 25 to 27, all DMV customer service centers will be closed.

CUE Bus: Cue Bus will operate on its regular schedule on Thursday, Dec. 23 and Friday, Dec. 31. On Friday, Dec. 24, the Cue Bus will operate on its regular schedule until service ends at 7 p.m. There will be no Cue Bus service on Saturday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 1.

Fairfax Connector: On Dec. 24 and 25, Fairfax Connector will run Saturday service. Routes on a Saturday schedule will include 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 308, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 424, 463, 467, 505, 551, 558, 559, 574, 605, 630, 640, 650, 703, 721, 803, 937, 950, 981, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. Libraries: Library locations will be open 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 23 and closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

Metro: Metrorail operates on a weekday schedule and Metrobus operates on a Saturday schedule on Dec. 24. Metrorail and Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 25. Visit www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables for more information.

Park authority: Colvin Run Mill, Sully Historic Site, E.C. Lawrence Nature Center, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Hidden Pond Nature Center, Huntley Meadows Nature Center, Riverbend Park Visitor Center, Frying Pan Farm Park and Green Spring Gardens will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

Post offices: Some locations may have limited or extended hours on Dec. 24. Check with your local post office. All post offices are closed on Dec. 25.

Recreation centers: Rec centers will be open 5 a.m. to noon on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25.

Refuse and recycling: On Thursday, Dec. 23, Thursday and Friday routes collected and yard waste collection service suspended. There will be no collection on Friday, Dec. 24. On Thursday, Dec. 30, Thursday and Friday routes collected. There will be no collection on Friday, Dec. 30.

Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.

Virginia DMV: All DMV customer service centers will be closed Dec. 23 to 25.
