What's Open, Closed In Fairfax City For New Year's 2023
New Year's Eve and Day fall on a weekend, which means some closures will happen on the observed holiday Monday.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — New Year's Day, the holiday celebrating the start of 2023, falls on a weekend. As a result, Monday will be an observed holiday with various closures in Fairfax City.
Fairfax County government will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2. Other services have schedule changes on Monday and surrounding days.

Below are the openings and closures to know for the New Year's holiday around Fairfax City:
Fairfax City government offices: Closed on Jan. 2.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Jan. 2.
Fairfax County Public Schools: Winter break is Dec. 19 to Jan. 2.
Community centers: Fairfax County's Neighborhood and Community Services centers will be closed on Dec. 31 and Jan. 2.
Courts: Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Jan. 2.
Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are closed Jan. 2.
CUE Bus: No service on Jan. 1. Modified weekday service will be offered on Jan. 2.
Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will have Sunday service on Jan. 1 and 2. For more information, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector.
Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center: Closed on Jan. 1. and 2.
Historic Blenheim: Closed on Jan. 1. and 2.
Libraries: Fairfax City Library and all Fairfax County Public Library locations will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be closed on Jan. 1 and 2.
Metro: Metrorail will be open 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Dec. 31 into Jan. 1. Metrorail and Metrobus will be free after 8 p.m. until closing. Some Metrobus route will be extended until 3 a.m. Metrorail will operate on a Sunday schedule from 7 a.m. until midnight on Jan. 1 and 2. See more information on Metro's website.
Post offices: Closed on Jan. 2.
Recreation centers: Fairfax County recreation centers are open until 4 p.m. on Dec. 31 and are closed on Jan. 1.
Trash and recycling: For City of Fairfax customers, Monday and Tuesday routes will be collected on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Fairfax County collection customers will have no changes to collections. Private collection customers should check with their hauler for any changes.
Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) close at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 and are closed Jan. 1.
