FAIRFAX CITY, VA — As residents get ready to celebrate the Fourth of July with fireworks, barbecues and trips to the beach, various closures and schedule changes are planned for services around Fairfax City.
The Independence Day holiday falls on Tuesday, July 4, which means some services will be closed Monday as well. Fairfax City and Fairfax County government offices will be closed on July 4, and other services will have schedule changes.

Here are the openings and closings to know for Fourth of July in Fairfax City.
City of Fairfax Offices: Closed on Tuesday, July 4.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Tuesday, July 4.
Fairfax County Public Schools: Students are on summer break, but July 4 is a holiday for all FCPS staff.
Historic Blenheim: Closed on Tuesday, July 4.
Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center: Open on Tuesday, July 4.
Courts: The Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed July 3 and 4.
Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers in Northern Virginia will be closed July 4.
CUE Bus: No regular service on Tuesday, July 4.
Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will have Saturday service on July 4. Routes that will operate are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 308, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 424, 463, 467, 558, 574, 605, 615, 630, 640, 650, 703, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5.
Libraries: On July 4, the City of Fairfax Regional Library and all Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed.
Metro: Metro will run on a Sunday holiday schedule on July 4. The Vienna and Dunn Loring stations remain closed on the Orange Line for a rail project through July 16. Orange Line service runs between West Falls Church and New Carrollton. Free shuttles serve the closed stations.
Post offices: Closed on July 4.
Recreation centers: All rec centers are open from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 4, except George Washington Rec Center, which is open 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mount Vernon Rec Center remains closed for its renovation project.
Trash and recycling collection: For City of Fairfax customers, Monday and Tuesday routes will be collected on Monday, July 3. There may be a delay in curbside yard waste collection July 3-8. For county collection customers, regular trash and recycling collection will happen on July 4, but administrative offices will be closed. If you have private collection, contact your hauler.
Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) are closed on July 4.
