What's Open, Closed On MLK Jr. Day 2022 In Fairfax City

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — On Monday, residents and businesses in Fairfax City will take a moment to honor the life and legacy of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.

As a federal holiday, MLK Day could also affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Fairfax City.

Before you head out, here’s a roundup of what’s open and what’s closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in our city:

Fairfax City government offices: City government offices are closed on Jan. 17.

Fairfax County government offices: County government offices are closed on Jan. 17.

Fairfax Museum & Visitor Center will be open on Jan. 17.

CUE Bus: CUE Bus will operated on a modified weekday service on Jan. 17.

Courts: The Fairfax County General District Court, Circuit Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed on Jan. 17.

Community centers: Fairfax County community centers will be closed Jan. 15 to 17. Fastran will not operate on Jan. 17.

Fairfax Connector: On Jan. 17, Fairfax Connector will run holiday weekday service. For more information, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector.

Libraries: Library locations are now closed on Sundays and Mondays. See hours for other days at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/branches.

Metro: Metrorail and Metrobus typically run on a Saturday schedule on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Due to the continued impacts of the derailment and 7000-series investigation, Metrorail service continues to be reduced. Visit www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables for more information.

Park authority: Check back for holiday hours for Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2022 from the park authority.

Post offices: Closed on Jan. 17.

Recreation centers: Check back for holiday hours for Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2022 from the park authority.

Trash and recycling: Refuse and recycling in the city will not be collected on Jan. 17. Monday and Tuesday refuse and recycling routes will be collected on Tuesday.

Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) are open regular hours on Jan. 17.

Virginia DMV: All DMV customer service centers will be closed Jan. 17.
