What's Open, Closed For Presidents Day 2024 In Fairfax City

There will be various closures for the Presidents Day holiday as well as events to celebrate George Washington events in Northern Virginia.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Presidents Day, also known as George Washington's Birthday, will provide a three-day weekend for m any employees and students, and this year the holiday falls on Monday, Feb. 19.

While many services will be closed for the holiday, residents can get out and enjoy several observances to celebrate the first president. George Washington's Mount Vernon will free admission on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 19, and Thursday, Feb. 22. Tickets will be limited and distributed on site. Another Presidents Day weekend event will be the George Washington Birthday Parade in Alexandria.

The federal holiday will prompt closures of government offices, schools and other services on Feb. 19, while other services like transit may have schedule changes. Here are the openings and closings to know in the City of Fairfax and Fairfax County.

Fairfax City government: Closed on Monday, Feb. 19, including DMV Select.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Feb. 19 is a holiday.

Courts: The Fairfax County General District Court, Circuit Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed on Feb. 19.

Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center: Open on Monday, Feb. 19

Community centers: Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services facilities will be closed Feb. 17 to 29. Fastran will not operate on Feb. 17 or 19.

CUE Bus: On Monday, Feb. 19, Fairfax City's CUE Bus will operate on a modified weekday schedule, which will consist of one bus on each route.

Fairfax Connector: On Feb. 19, Fairfax Connector will run holiday weekday service. Routes that will operate are: 101, 109, 151, 152, 159, 161, 162, 171, 301, 305, 306, 308, 310, 321, 322, 334, 340, 341, 350, 351, 352, 353, 371, 372, 373, 401, 402, 423, 424, 462, 463, 466, 467, 507, 552, 553, 557, 558, 574, 605, 615, 621, 622, 623, 630, 631, 632, 640, 641, 642, 650, 651, 652, 660, 703, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 951, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5.

Library: Fairfax City Regional Library and other Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed on Feb. 19.

Metro: Metro will be open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, 7 a.m. to midnight on Sunday, and 5 a.m. to midnight on Monday. On the Red Line, there will be single tracking between Van Ness and Friendship Heights from Saturday to Monday. Trains operate every 18 minutes between Glenmont and Shady Grove. On the Blue Line, trains run every 18 minutes between Franconia-Springfield and Foggy Bottom Saturday and Sunday. On the Orange and Silver Lines, trains single track between Smithsonian and Federal Center SW and run every 18 minutes Saturday and Sunday. Normal service is planned on the Yellow and Green Lines.

Post offices: Closed on Feb. 19.

Recreation centers: Fairfax County recreation centers are open regular hours on Feb. 19.

Trash and recycling: There is no trash collection change for Fairfax County collection customers on Feb. 19. Private collection customers should check with their hauler for any changes.

Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) are open regular hours on Feb. 19.
