What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving 2021 In Fairfax City

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Thanksgiving is not only a time to share a meal with extended family and friends, but it's also a federal holiday with closures for government, schools and other services.

Fairfax City and Fairfax County government offices will be closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 25 as well as Black Friday, Friday, Nov. 26. Some services may be closed or altered on other surrounding days as well.

Below are the openings and closings to know for Thanksgiving around Herndon:

City of Fairfax government offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25 and Friday, Nov. 26.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Thursday, Nov. 25 and Friday, Nov. 26.

Fairfax County Public Schools: All Fairfax County Public Schools are closed Nov. 24 to 26.

Animal shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter offers services by appointment only. Animal-related emergencies should be directed to Animal Protection Police at 703-691-2131.

Museum: Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center is closed on Thursday, Nov. 25 and open Friday, Nov. 26.

Historic Center: Civil War Interpretive Center at Historic Blenheim is closed on Thursday, Nov. 25 and open Friday, Nov. 26.

Courts: Fairfax Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 24 and are closed on Nov. 25 and 26.

Department of Motor Vehicles: On Nov. 25 to 27, all DMV customer service centers will be closed.

CUE Bus: There will be no CUE Bus service on Nov. 25. The CUE Bus will operate Nov. 26 on a modified schedule.

Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector has regular weekday service on Nov. 24, Sunday service on Nov. 25, and holiday weekday service on Nov. 26. See more information on the Fairfax Connector website.

Health department vaccination clinics: Tysons Community Vaccination Center is open on Nov. 24 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Vaccination clinics at Fairfax County Government Center, the Hyland South County Government Center (Mt. Vernon District Office), and Tysons Community Vaccination Center and call centers are closed Nov. 25-28.

Libraries: Fairfax County Public Library locations are closed Nov. 25-26.

Malls: Tysons Corner Center is closed on Nov. 25 and open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Nov. 26. Tysons Galleria is closed on Nov. 25 and open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 26.

Metro: Metrorail and Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thursday, Nov. 25 and offer weekday service on Friday, Nov. 26. Metro expects to have reduced service at least through the end of the year due to the continuing derailment investigation. For more information, visit www.wmata.com.

Park authority: Colvin Run Mill; Sully Historic Site; nature centers at E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows; Riverbend Park Visitor Center; Frying Pan Farm Park; and Green Spring Gardens are closed on Nov. 25. On Nov. 26, Colvin Run Mill is closed and Sully Historic Site is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nature centers at E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows; Riverbend Park Visitor Center; Frying Pan Farm Park; and Green Spring Gardens are closed on Nov. 26. Riverbend Park Visitor Center is closed on Nov. 26. Frying Pan Farm Park and the arena are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. but the visitor center is closed on Nov. 26. Green Spring Gardens is closed on Nov. 26.

Post offices: Closed on Nov. 25.

County Recreation centers: All Rec centers will be open Nov. 25 from 5 a.m. to noon, except George Washington Rec Center, which will be closed. Rec centers are open on Nov. 26.

Trash and recycling: Refuse and recycling will not be collected in Fairfax City. Thursday and Friday refuse and recycling routes will be collected Friday, Nov. 26. Fairfax County collection customers' trash and recycling will be collected on the regular schedule on Nov. 25 and 26. The administrative office will be closed on Nov. 25 and 26. Private collection customers should contact their hauler.

Trash and recycling centers: I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Landfill Complex will be closed on Nov. 25 and have regular hours on Nov. 26.

Virginia Railway Express: There is no VRE service on Nov. 25 or 26. For more information, visit www.vre.org.
