What's Open, Closed For Veterans Day 2021 In Fairfax City
Veterans Day will result in some closures and a ceremony honoring veterans in Old Town Square.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Before the holiday season gets started with Thanksgiving later this month, Veterans Day will be observed as a federal holiday on Thursday, Nov. 11. The holiday celebrates all those who have served in the U.S. armed forces. In Fairfax City, there will be closures for the holiday and an event to honor veterans.
American Legion Post 177 and VFW Post 8469 will be hosting a Veterans Day program on Thursday, from 10:30-11:59 a.m. at Old Town Square, located at 10415 North St.
Below are the openings and closures to know for Veterans Day on Thursday, Nov. 11:

Fairfax City Offices: Closed on Nov. 11

Historic Blenheim: Open
CUE Bus: Open and operating on a modified weekday schedule.
Fairfax County government: Closed on Nov. 11.
Fairfax County Public Schools: Schools will have a two-hour early release on Nov. 11.
Animal shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter offers services by appointment.
Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services: Community centers will be closed on Nov. 11.
Courts: Fairfax Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Nov. 11.
Department of Motor Vehicles: All Virginia DMV locations in Northern Virginia are closed on Nov. 11. Many DMV services are available either online or by visiting dmvNOW.com/appt to schedule an appointment.
Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will provide holiday weekday service on Nov. 11.
Libraries: Fairfax County Public Library locations are closed on Nov. 11.
Metro: Metrobus and Metrorail will run on a Saturday schedule on Nov. 11. Service is reduced through at least Nov. 15 due to the Oct. 12 train derailment investigation.
Park authority: Colvin Run Mill; Sully Historic Site; the nature centers at E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows; Hidden Oaks Nature Center; Riverbend Park Visitor Center, and Green Spring Gardens Horticultural Center and Historic House are closed on Nov. 11. Frying Pan Farm Park Visitor Center is closed, but the farm and indoor arena are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Post offices: Closed on Nov. 11.
Recreation centers: On Nov. 11, RECenters will be open 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Veterans and active-duty military personnel and their families can visit RECenters for free on Nov. 11. Military identification is required.
Trash and recycling: Thursday routes will not be picked up on Nov. 11. Thursday and Friday refuse and recycling routes collected on Friday. Fairfax County collection customers will have collection services on Nov. 11. Private collection customers should check with their hauler for any changes.
Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Landfill Complex are open regular hours on Nov. 11.
