Winter Weather Tips for Drivers in Fairfax
If forecasts prove correct, the area could get 4 to 9 inches of snow Monday night into Tuesday. City officials have some tips for motorists.

FAIRFAX, VA — With an expected four to nine inches of snow Monday night into Tuesday, the city has some tips for motorists:
Drivers are asked to:
- Monitor weather to stay abreast of the latest timing and intensity along your travel routes.
- Adjust commutes to avoid driving during inclement weather. Try to leave delay vehicle trips during inclement weather, until conditions improve. Allow plenty of extra travel time.
- Reduce speeds. Do not overdrive conditions, and use headlights.
- Take it slow on bridges, ramps, and overpasses, and other known trouble spots.
- Ensure gas tanks and windshield fluid tanks are full, and take time to update your car’s emergency kit.
Also, the city points out that with temperatures well below freezing the next several nights, there's a chance of re-freezing on roads even after they already have been treated.
