Winter Weather Tips for Residents of Fairfax

Above all else, says the City of Fairfax, stay attentive about forecasts and monitor potential travel routes ahead of time when snow looms.

FAIRFAX, VA — With a smattering of snow expected through the end of the week and possibly into the weekend, the City of Fairfax has some tips for how to maneuver through both the cold and the snow and anything in between during the coming months.

Drivers are asked to:

  • Monitor weather to stay abreast of the latest timing and intensity along your travel routes.
  • Adjust commutes to avoid driving during inclement weather. Try to leave delay vehicle trips during inclement weather, until conditions improve. Allow plenty of extra travel time.
  • Reduce speeds. Do not overdrive conditions, and use headlights.
  • Take it slow on bridges, ramps, and overpasses, and other known trouble spots.
  • Ensure gas tanks and windshield fluid tanks are full, and take time to update your car’s emergency kit

Consider taking public transportation, such as CUE Bus, which runs in nearly all weather as long as conditions permit.
