Woman, 63, Dies After Being Struck By Car On West Ox Road: Police

FAIR OAKS, VA — A 63-year-old Fairfax woman died early Sunday morning after being struck by a car as she was crossing West Ox Road in the Fair Oaks area, according to a police release.

Fairfax County Police detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit determined that Ligia Jeannette Herrera Betbeder of Fairfax was crossing north of Legato Road around 5:54 a.m., when she was struck by a 2015 Honda Civic traveling southbound on West Ox Road, according to police.

After examining Betbeder, emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead on the scene. Police say that the victim was in the roadway outside the crosswalk when she was struck.

The driver of the Honda Civic remained on the scene following the fatal collision.

A preliminary investigation determined that speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash, but investigators will submit their findings to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for review, according to police.
