Woman, 87, Dead in Townhouse Fire: Reports

The victim escaped the building, but she had been exposed to smoke in the home.

An elderly woman died following a townhouse fire Saturday night, according to media reports, including WUSA9.

Crews responded to the fire at 11 p.m. in the Comstock neighborhood.

The victim, Chau Nguyen, 87, and her son, had escaped the home, but she had been exposed to heavy smoke in an upper bedroom, according to WTOP.

Efforts to revive her at the scene and at Inova Fairfax Hospital were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to NBC Washington.

Investigators believe that the fire was caused by incense in a bedroom.
