Woman Duped By Jury Duty Scam In Fairfax
A woman was duped by both a fake cop and a familiar jury duty scam Wednesday in Fairfax, according to Fairfax Police. Also: crime report.

FAIRFAX, VA — A woman was duped by both a fake cop and a familiar jury duty scam Wednesday in the 9400 block of Silver King Court, according to Fairfax Police. Shortly after 6 p.m., the woman told police that around 3 p.m., a man contacted her and said he was a lieutenant with the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office and that he had some bad news.
Namely, he told her she was wanted for missing jury duty. To avoid immediate arrest, she was told to pay a fine by buying money cards and telling him the numbers. She did exactly. Only later did she contact police. Also in Friday's Fairfax Police crime report:

9628 Fairfax Boulevard / Sunoco Service Station – On October 25 at 1:07 PM the vehicle owner reported that sometime between 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM on October 24 unknown person(s) had stolen cash, a medical kit, sunglasses and perfume from his unlocked parked vehicle.

Sager Avenue / Addison Road – On October 26 at 7:12 PM an officer investigating a vehicle crash determined that the driver involved was intoxicated. Sarah Elizabeth Bigelow, 59, of 4126 Addison Road, Fairfax, was transported to the Adult Detention Center where she was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and issued a summons for failure to maintain proper control.

Fairfax Boulevard / Rebel Run – On October 27 at 1:04 AM an officer who had conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle observed being operated erratically determined that the driver was intoxicated. Penelope Nunez Berguete, 24, of 1601 Valeview Court, Apopka, Florida, was transported to the Adult Detention Center where she was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and for driving without a license. Her bond was set at $2000.
