Woodson Softball Team Looks For Win In Regionals After Impressive Season
The Cavaliers finished the regular season 12-2.

The W.T. Woodson Cavaliers varsity softball team finished their regular season one step from the Patriot District Championship with a 12-2 overall record.
They were knocked out of the tournament by the four-time defending district champion South County Stallions in a tough 5-3 loss. The Stallions won the title and recorded their 67th straight victory against Patriot District opponents in the championship game.
Senior ace Naomi Kennedy started every game for the Cavaliers this season.

“Naomi was a major part of our success, I can’t say enough about that kid,” said Cavaliers head coach Bob Coleman. “She played her heart out every game.”
Coleman also mentioned senior outfielder Kerchina Johnson and catcher Shannon McCloud as top players this season.

Johnson will throw track and field for East Carolina University in the fall, and McCloud will catch for Mary Washington University next season.
Johnson led the Cavs in homeruns (7) and RBIs (35) for the season.
McCloud finished the season with 32 RBIs.
The Cavaliers had three victories by more than 20 runs this season over TC Williams, Fairfax and West Springfield.
“I think defense is something we have to focus more on,” said Coleman. “We held a lot of teams to a low number of runs this year and we need to get back to that mindset.”
Woodson held Robert E Lee High School scoreless twice this year and also kept TC Williams and West Springfield to no runs.
“We’re focusing more on what we need to do versus what the other team’s strengths are,” said Coleman.
The Cavaliers face Madison High School in the opening round of the Northern Region tournament Friday at 4 p.m. at home.
