Volunteer Fairfax, along with the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, will honor 154 local volunteers during the 21th Anniversary Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards. The Awards will be held Thursday, April 18, at the Waterford at Springfield in Springfield, Va. With more than 400 guests expected to be in attendance, the Awards is one of the largest community-wide recognition events for volunteers.
In Clifton, the following residents have been nominated for a Fairfax County Volunteer Service Award:
- Fred Ansick volunteered at Clifton Betterment Association, and is nominated for the Adult Volunteer 250 Hours & Under Award.
- Gracing Spaces volunteered at FACETS, and is nominated for the Adult Volunteer Group Award.
- Victoria Kirby volunteered at Humane Society of Fairfax County, and is nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award.
- Christopher Marty volunteered at Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program, and is nominated for the Youth Benchmark 100 Award.
- Ester Holtermann volunteered at Centreville Immigration Forum, and is nominated for the Intégrate Individual Award.
The Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards honors volunteers who are dedicated to improving life in Fairfax County. Whether they are helping neighbors in need, or building communities, volunteers are always finding new ways to improve their community through service. Individuals and groups will be honored for their work in supporting such programs and causes as tutoring individuals with developmental disabilities, environmental preservation, mentoring youth, supporting families with children in the NICU, animal rescue, homelessness and hunger.

“Volunteering, as an industry, is what we make it and it and has potential to be transformative and impactful for the community as well as for the individual performing the good deed,” says Jeanne Saunders, Executive Director of Volunteer Fairfax. “So often their efforts are humble but at the Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards we shine a spotlight on their service.”
Volunteer Fairfax is excited to have special guests at this year’s ceremony. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the honorary chairs, will present awards to the community volunteers, which include their own Community Champions. Additionally, Virginia Bureau Chief for ABC7/WJLA-TV and News Channel 8, Jeff Goldberg, will emcee the program. Other key members of local and state government have been invited.
