LEADERSHIP FAIRFAX TO HOLD 22ND ANNUAL BOARD OF SUPERVISORS BREAKFAST; WALTER ALCORN TO RECEIVE THE 2013 KATHERINE K. HANLEY PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD

Vienna, VA, February 2013 - Leadership Fairfax Inc. (LFI) will hold its 22nd Annual Board of Supervisors Breakfast at the Waterford at Fair Oaks on Friday, March 1st, 2013 from 7:00 – 9:30 am. During the presentation, which includes the State of the County by Chairman Sharon Bulova, and Walter Alcorn will be honored for his public service in Northern Virginia with the Katherine K. Walter Alcorn has served on the Fairfax County Planning Commission since 1996 as both the Parliamentarian and Vice Chairman. Some of Alcorn’s projects and accomplishments include:
- He served as chair for the Tysons Corner Committee since its founding in 2008
- Walter led the work to render the vision of the Tysons Corner Task Force as part of the larger Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan, with recommendations that were adopted by the Board of Supervisors in June 2010
- He was first appointed by Former Board Chairman Kate Hanley, and reappointed 3 times by Former Board Chairman Gerry Connolly and current Chair Sharon Bulova
- He chaired the Planning Commission's Environment Committee from 1997 to 2006
- Walter has been a Virginia Certified Planning Commissioner since December 1997
- He is the Vice President for Environmental Affairs and Industry Sustainability at the Consumer Electronics Association in Crystal City
- Alcorn worked as an environmental consultant specializing in the development of a national system for recycling electronic equipment, co-founded the 501(c)3 National Center for Electronics Recycling in 2005, and was a Deputy Division Manager in the Technology Research Group for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC)
Leadership Fairfax established the Katherine K. Hanley Public Service Award to honor Kate Hanley’s public service legacy by recognizing public service employees or volunteers for their outstanding accomplishments in the areas of public service on an appointed board, authority or commission.

After the awards presentation, the supervisors and County Executive Ed Long will speak about issues facing their districts and the county during this budget year, with questions from the attendees. This event is one of LFI’s largest and best-known, drawing a crowd from across all sectors of the business, government and non-profit communities.
