Volunteers For Change Valentines Challenge

Fairfax County, VA – This past Saturday, January, 19th, members of Volunteer Fairfax’s Volunteers for Change (VFC) program gathered at Dewberry Hall in the Johnson Center at George Mason University. Their task: to assemble 2,500 valentines for former foster youth.

Many college students rely on and look forward to care packages sent by their families throughout the year, but thousands of former foster youth can only watch their roommates and friends open boxes from home. That is why Foster Care to Success (formerly Orphan Foundation of America), in partnership with companies and corporations nationwide, delivers care packages three times a year. Foster Care to Success and Volunteer Fairfax had VFC members assemble 2,500 valentines that will be included in the February packages. These dedicated volunteers managed to reach their goal!

Throughout the year, VFC members accomplish many such projects – from assembling bagged lunches for homeless, to making power packs for children on the weekend who receive free and reduced lunches at school, to participating in stream cleanup and habitat restoration. If you are looking to make a difference in your community and have a weekend or an evening a month to serve, Volunteers for Change is for you. To get started, attend the orientation on Sunday January 27, 2013 from noon to 1pm. Email Jen Kivlin to sign up at jkivlin@volunteerfairfax.org.

Volunteer Fairfax is supported by the following premier sponsors:
Exxon Mobil Corporation and Northrop Grumman Corporation.
