Programs Offer Help for Summer Heat

Programs for Fairfax County seniors assist them in keeping cool this summer

Area seniors may qualify for assistance programs that will help them deal with the long, hot summer days.

The Cooling Assistance Programs and the Fan Care Program are both administered by Fairfax County’s Department of Family Services. Those 60 years of age and older can qualify.

The cooling program helps seniors pay for their electric bill or repair an air conditioning unit. The fan care program provides about 200 free fans and/or window air conditioners to eligible seniors, according to the program’s website.  Complete the application and fax it along with a copy of your current electric bill and a pay stub to 703-324-8242.
