Door-to-Door Salespeople Must Have Proper Permits, City Says

The City of Falls Church Police Department recently investigated illegal solicitation and canvassing by individuals and businesses.

The City of Falls Church Police Department recently investigated illegal solicitation and canvassing by individuals and businesses, according to a news release from the City. The Police are taking proactive measures to stop these practices, and are asking for the community’s help. Here’s more, from the release: The City’s Code of Ordinances requires canvassers or solicitors to be licensed by the Police Department. All door-to-door salespeople with the proper permits carry a certificate while canvassing neighborhoods. You are encouraged to ask for the permit certificate and to never allow anyone you don’t know inside your home.

Being a good neighbor is another important way to help. When a neighbor leaves for vacation or extended trip, take in the mail and newspapers and clear the clutter of flyers. Make sure the home looks occupied and looked-after.

If you notice a suspicious person or vehicle in your neighborhood or if you believe you may have been the victim of a scam, call police at 703-248-5053 (TTY 711). If a crime is in progress, call 911.

The Police Department is judicious in issuing Solicitors Licenses. Charities and canvassers for political candidates are exempt from the permit process, as are children under 17, unless they are acting as agents of adults.
