Update: Police Identify Man, Woman Killed in Fairfax Car Crash That Also Injured 2 Kids

Detectives believe speed was a factor in the fatal single-car accident.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – Two adults are dead and two children are injured, one critically, after a single-car accident on Route 123/Chain Bridge Road early Sunday morning, Fairfax County authorities say.

According to Fairfax County police, Xiomara Herrera, 30, of Falls Church, was driving a 2020 Mercedes GLA 250 eastbound in an Interstate 66 express lane when she took the Chain Bridge Road exit, drove through the intersection, crossed the raised median, and struck a concrete barrier.

Herrera was pronounced deceased at the scene. Alejandro Rodriguez Castillo, 27, of Sterling, was riding in the front passenger seat. He was taken to a local hospital in a life-threatening condition and later pronounced dead.

Two child passengers were also injured in the crash: a 2-year-old and an 8-year-old. Both were hospitalized. The 2-year-old's injuries were considered to be life-threatening.

Police responded to the crash site at 12:28 a.m. Sunday. Detectives say they believe speed was a factor in the crash. They also say only the 8-year-old was properly restrained in the car.

Both directions of Route 123 were closed as detectives investigated the crash. No cause has yet been announced.
