Falls Church 9/11 Ceremony Planned On 21st Anniversary Of Terrorist Attacks
A 9/11 remembrance ceremony featuring city officials will be held Sunday. Plus, we remember the two victims of 9/11 from Falls Church.
FALLS CHURCH, VA — On the 21st anniversary of 9/11, Falls Church will hold a remembrance ceremony Sunday.
All are invited to attend the ceremony at 11 a.m. Sunday at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church. The ceremony will remember the victims, survivors and all those affected by the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. As reported by the Falls Church News-Press, State Sen. Chap Petersen will be the keynote speaker, and Maj. Joanna Forbes, a U.S. Army minister, will provide remarks. The Falls Church Concert Band will perform at the ceremony.
Nearly 3,000 Americans were killed in the suicide attacks carried out by 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group Al-Qaeda. Many of the victims were killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, and additional victims died in the attack on the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the hijacked plane crash near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. There were two victims of the 9/11 attacks from Falls Church and others from Northern Virginia.

The ceremony will also honor those who risked their lives or gave up their lives to save others. First responders from Northern Virginia had been part of the response to the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon.
