Intoxicated Man Damages Street Signs Near Falls Church

Police found the suspect damaging street signs outside Falls Church City and later determined he had taken narcotics.

FALLS CHURCH, VA -- A man was arrested after damaging street signs near Lee Highway and Woodley Place Sunday just outside of Falls Church City. He was found to be intoxicated and to have taken narcotics, Fairfax County Police said.

Around 4 p.m. police responded to a report of a man swinging wooden sticks and damaging street signs. After initially refusing to cooperate with police, Jerell Maurice Smith, 28, of Sterling was arrested.

An investigation found the suspect had taken narcotics. Smith is charged with possession of PCP, disorderly conduct, destruction of property, drunk in public. He is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.
