Joel Henry Stein House Concert

Joel Henry Stein Kicks Off National House-Concert Tour in Northern Virginia on August 2nd, 2014

Indie singer-songwriter, Joel Henry Stein, is embarking on a national house concert tour focused on providing an intimate musical experience in people’s homes across the country.  Offering an alternative to noisy venues and chaotic nightclubs, Los Angeles artist Stein seeks to deliver a unique folk-music journey to the public in the close, convenient, and comfortable atmosphere of a private residence.  Says Stein, “My absolute favorite way of performing folk music is not so much where it’s a performance, but more a hootenanny, where everyone just hangs out and sings in someone’s living room.  House concerts are a great way to build community.”

Stein, originally from McLean, started his music career at McLean High School (class of 1990), becoming somewhat of a local celebrity due to his talent and musical accomplishments (as a senior and McLean Band President, he won a $1K scholarship at the Chantilly Jazz Festival, came in First Place in the Virginia Music Teachers Association Composition Festival, and received a community service award from the McLean Rotary Club).  He now returns to his hometown with five solo folk-rock albums under his belt and a PhD in music composition from UCLA, more than ready to kick off his summer house concert tour with a bang!

Ticketmaster describes Stein’s approach as, “Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan rolled into one, making rockin’ folk music that picks you up and takes you on a journey to Woody Guthrie-land, with stops in Velvet Underground-ville.”  Combining both original material and traditional folk classics, Joel’s ability to engage and appeal to all ages through song is a rare talent that begs mention.

After rekindling their high school friendship on Facebook some 24 years later, Vienna resident Nina Somerville and Joel arranged this concert to take place at the Somerville residence.  The concert is free and open to the public, with a communal potluck also taking place. Doors open at 7 pm and music starts at 7:30 pm. Bring a tasty dessert and come on down to the Somerville residence in Vienna to experience great food, great people, and, great music!
