Homicide detectives are still actively investigating the case and are looking for suspect Juan Matetu Figueroa, wanted for the murder of Glenda Aviles, 28, who died of stab wounds in a June 2014 attack, according to police. Figueroa, 35, was her boyfriend, police said.

He was last seen in North Carolina, in July of 2014, according to police. They now have reason to believe that Figueroa has fled the United States and may be in Honduras, police said Thursday.

On June 18, 2014, at about 9:30 a.m., officers responded to check on the welfare of a person in a home located in the 6900 block of Westmoreland Road, Falls Church, police said. No one answered the door and there was nothing that appeared out of the ordinary at that time. Later in the day, officers returned to the home with a homeowner, and entered the residence. They found a woman, believed to be in her mid-20s, deceased. There were multiple people living in the home; the victim rented one of the rooms, police said.

Detectives are still asking for anyone with information regarding Figueroa’s whereabouts, to contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, e-mail at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
