Rare Alexander Hamilton Letter To Go On Auction In Falls Church

History buffs can get their hands on a letter a Founding Father wrote in 1794.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Often you'll see artifacts relating to the Founding Fathers in museums, but a rare opportunity to own one of these is coming up in Falls Church. A letter written by Alexander Hamilton will be auctioned off March 22 at Quinn’s Auction Galleries, 360 South Washington Street, Falls Church, The Virginian-Pilot reports.

The letter from Sept. 14, 1794, was written during the Whisky Rebellion protesting the whisky tax imposed by the government. Hamilton was serving as the first Secretary of the Treasury and had pushed for the whisky tax and other sources of revenue for the new American government.

The letter had been appraised at $11,448, with the value going up due to the success of "Hamilton: An American Musical." The sale will benefit the Hill House Museum, which showcases historical family artifacts in Portsmouth.
