Pine Island is a non-profit summer camp, in continuous operation since 1902 that fosters boys’ independence, imagination, and character. While many camps operate as profit-driven small businesses, Pine Island stands apart as a 501(c)(3) organization. For over a century, it has provided boys aged nine to fifteen the most meaningful experiences of their lives. On a small island in Maine’s Belgrade Lakes, campers live unplugged—without electricity or running water. They gain the freedom to make meaningful choices, the support of a community grounded in shared values, and enough time away from home to feel both independent and integral to a unique community they help build. Whether your son is shy or outgoing, big or small, Pine Island will challenge him to bring out his best in the simple joys and varied circumstances of outdoor living. All of this happens under the close guidance of our caring staff, nearly all of whom are former campers themselves. Spots are limited—Pine Island limits enrollment to fewer than 100 campers each summer. James River Hospice is seeking Friendly Visitor Volunteers 

James River Hospice, Farmville

James River Hospice is seeking Friendly Visitor Volunteers to visit with our patients in and around the Farmville area. Friendly Visitor Volunteers play board or card games with patients, finger paint or color with crayons or colored pencils at their patient's bedside, take your patient outside for fresh air, help your patient write cards and letters to friends and family or watch classic tv or movies with your patient. Friendly Visitor Volunteers become friends with their patient, offering your patient all the emotional support and comfort a dear friendship brings. As a Friendly Visitor Volunteer, James River Hospice will train you, so you will be confident and knowledgeable about ways to support and comfort your patient. You will visit your patient in whatever setting the patient calls home, the standalone house where they raised their family, a 55+ community, an assisted living facility, a nursing home, or a memory care building for people with dementia and/or memory loss. Requirements: a two-step TB test and a drug screen at no cost to you. You must have current auto insurance if you will be driving to visit your patient and you must be 18 years of age or older.
