MANASSAS/STAFFORD, VA — Patient First is providing drive-up coronavirus testing at its medical centers in Manassas and Stafford County. People must make appointments to get tested by calling the centers. Staff at the centers will ask the patients questions about their symptoms to determine if they meet the criteria to be tested for the coronavirus.

Testing is scheduled between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, at the two centers. All test samples are collected outside of the center, which allows patients to remain in their vehicles through the entire process. The staff member collecting samples is equipped with personal protective equipment, including an N95 mask, gloves, eye protection and gown.

The Patient First Medical Center in Manassas, at 9715 Liberia Avenue, can be reached at 571-229-1797. The Stafford center, at 60 Prosperity Lane, just off Garrisonville Road, can be reached at 540-658-2811. The two centers have performed more than 250 tests since testing began late last week, a Patient First spokesperson said in an email to Patch.

Test samples are sent to a third-party reference lab for testing. Results are usually ready within about two days. A Patient First nurse calls each patient once results are available to share results, provide guidance and answer questions.

For insured patients, there is no out-of-pocket expense for the coronavirus testing. The visit will be submitted to the patients's insurance company or Medicare and Medicaid. For self-pay patients, the cost is $90 plus a separate bill from the lab, which is $51.31 in Virginia.

All other visits to Patient First Medical Centers do not require appointments. The medical care network said its centers have taken steps to provide a safe environment for patients and staff, including requiring everyone to wear masks while inside the center, disinfecting surfaces throughout the center at regular intervals, requiring frequent hand washing, and limiting visitors to only essential family members.

Each Patient First center has on-site X-ray, laboratory and prescription drugs.

Patient First also is conducting telehealth service for patients. Patients in Virginia can meet with a Patient First physician through a smart phone, tablet, or computer. Patient First’s telehealth service is available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To be eligible for a telehealth visit, the patient must be in Virginia and have visited any Patient First in Virginia within the last five years.
