
Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge will be having their annual Memorial Day march from the Masonic Lodge on Princess Anne Street to the Masonic Cemetery on Charles Street, where the Masons of Fredericksburg will honor their members from Fredericksburg's historic past and a bagpipe requiem will ensue. Then they will continue to the General Hugh Mercer statue on Washington Street, where their guest speaker, Francis Gary Powers, Jr. will offer a Memorial Day speech.
George Washington was a lifetime member of Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge, along with Hugh Mercer, Lafayette, Fielding Lewis, James Monroe and other notables and greats of history. This Masonic Lodge has remained in existence in Fredericksburg since 1752 and has played a vital role in its history. This Masonic Cemetery was established in 1784 and is the oldest in the Americas.
Mr. Powers was the founder of the Cold War Museum in 1996, and was its Director till 2010. The Cold War Museum was founded to honor veterans of the Cold War and to preserve its history.
