Fredericksburg and Stafford Schools Honor Teachers, Principal

Fredericksburg hands out Teacher of the Year awards and Stafford picks top principal.

The Fredericksburg City Schools and Stafford County Schools both honored their exemplary educators this past week.  

In Fredericksburg five teachers—one from each of the city schools—were chosen to be Teachers of the Year.  In Stafford Countym the school district chose their Principal of the Year for 2012.

  • Marissa Hubrig, Head Start teacher, Old Walker-Grant School
  • Molly Roohi, Physical Education, Hugh Mercer Elementary School
  • Cecelia Oakley, 3rd grade, Lafayette Upper Elementary School
  • Joanna Sledziona, 6th Grade, Walker-Grant Middle School
  • Linda Robinson, English teacher, James Monroe High School

Principal William Boatwright of Stafford County’s A.G. Wright Middle School was selected as the Stafford County Principal of the Year. Boatwright has been with the Stafford County Public School district since 1994, when he started as a school counselor. He has been at A.G. Wright as the principal since 2004. Boatwright attended Virginia Tech for both his Bachelor and Masters degrees and he received an endorsement in administration and supervision from George Mason University. Boatwright was acknowledged by the Washington Post in its Distinguished Educational Leadership Awards program and in 2005 received the Vincent Reed Washington Post Leadership Award for New Principals. 

According to a Stafford County Schools' press release, Boatwright said he was honored to have been selected, and particularly proud of the fact that students who have since moved to other endeavors make it a point to share their milestones with their former teachers and other staff members.

In Fredericksburg the Teachers of the Year are nominated by school district employees and then voted upon by all employees at the school in which they work. Next week, a committee comprised of past Division Teachers of the Year will meet to select this years Division Teacher of the Year, who will then go on to represent Fredericksburg for the statewide Virginia Teacher of the Year program.
