Fredericksburg Man Indicted For Illegal Reentry: ICE
A federal grand jury indicted a Fredericksburg man for illegally reentering the U.S. after being removed in 2023, according to authorities.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — A federal grand jury indicted a Fredericksburg man on Tuesday for illegally reentering the U.S. after being removed following a felony conviction, according to court documents.
The indictment filed in U.S. District Court for Eastern Virginia said that Jacinto Fredy Caal-Caal had been removed from the country on Nov. 13, 2023, at or near Alexandria, Louisiana. The removal came after he was convicted of an aggravated criminal felony on Aug. 14, 2023.
On Nov. 25, 2025, Caal-Caal was arraigned in Spotsylvania General District Court on a misdemeanor assault and battery charge, according to court documents.

After being found guilty on Jan. 8, Caal-Caal was ordered to pay $299 in court costs and was sentenced to 12 months in jail, with 10 months suspended, court records say. He remains in custody.
Upon notification of Caal-Caal's November arrest, a deportation officer with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Fairfax County conducted an immigration records check.

The officer determined that Caal-Caal was a native and citizen of Guatemala who had been expelled from the U.S. in 2023, according to an affidavit in support of an arrest warrant request. The ICE officer found that Caal-Caal had no legal authorization to re-enter or remain in the U.S.

A review of Caal-Caal's criminal history revealed that he had been convicted on two counts of forgery and one count of perjury in August 2023, according to the affidavit. He was sentenced to five years in prison on each of the three charges, with all but one month suspended.
Caal-Caal is scheduled to be arraigned on the illegal reentry charge at 9 a.m. on Feb. 18, in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, according to court records.
A suspect convicted of illegal reentry without a prior aggravated felony conviction faces a potential sentence of up to two years in prison, under U.S. law. However, anyone found guilty on this charge who has a prior aggravated felony conviction, which Caal-Caal has, faces up to 20 years in prison.
