New Principal at Lafayette Upper Elementary
T. Matthew Terry is the new principal at Lafayette Upper.

The new principal for Lafayette Upper Elementary school said he wants to make his mark at the school by showing students that learning can be fun and rewarding.
T. Matthew Terry's message is in the school's February newsletter. His career with city schools started in 1999. Before taking this job, he was the assistant principal at Walker-Grant Middle School. He also worked at James Monroe High School.
"Nevertheless, I will now shift from being a Roaring Tiger to a leading Lafayette Lion and will assume all the Lion Pride that comes with this transition," he wrote in newsletter. "With this responsibility I plan to continue to support the dedicated faculty and staff at LUES in their ongoing efforts to set high expectations and provide all children with a quality education. Furthermore, I am committed to upholding and to promoting the school’s mission of responsibility, ownership, achievement, and research."

Terry goes on to say that he believes all members of the school community should encourage students to be active, life-long learners so they can reach their full potential. He challenges the community to join him in inspiring the young students and helping them set and meet their goals.
"Personally, I will strive to learn just as much from children at LUES as they do from me, and I will show them that learning is indeed a fun,
rewarding experience," he said.
