Police Arrest Local Man for Stealing Backpack

Heist took place Friday night at Route 1 hotel, say Fredericksburg police.

City police arrested a Fredericksburg man Friday night after he allegedly stole a backpack from a woman at a local hotel.

Timothy Hinson, 26, was charged with robbery, assault and two counts of credit card larceny, according to the Fredericksburg police. He was incarcerated without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

The robbery occurred at 11 p.m. Friday at the Dunning Mills Inn, 2305 Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1), according to a police report. A city resident told police that she was speaking with Hinson, who is an acquaintance of hers, when he grabbed her backpack.

The two struggled over the backpack before Hinson was able to get it out of her hands. He then fled the scene in a blue pickup truck, police said.
