Police Charge Second Person In Connection With Apartment Shooting

The second suspect, a 19-year-old from Woodbridge, was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Fredericksburg Police Department charged a second person in connection with a Dec. 14 shooting in the city that left one person dead and another person injured, the department said Thursday.

Maurice Richardson Jr., 19, of Woodbridge, was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony. Richardson turned himself into the Alexandria Police Department on Dec. 18 and is currently being held at the Alexandria Detention Center, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department.

The shootings occurred in an apartment around 9 p.m. on Dec. 14 in the 1200 block of Kenmore Avenue in Fredericksburg. Police responded to the report of gunshots in the apartment and found 34-year-old Jamil Washington of Fredericksburg, who died at the scene, and the other victim, who was transported to a nearby hospital where he received medical attention and was released Dec. 15.

On Dec. 16, the Fredericksburg police arrested Darian Lamar Wilhoit Jones, 19, of Stafford County, in connection with the same shooting. Wilhoit Jones was charged with capital murder, attempted capital murder, attempted robbery, and use of a firearm in a commission of a felony.

The investigation into the shooting is still active and ongoing, the police department said Thursday.
