• PETA Urgently Seeks Adopters, Fosters for 10 Dogs Rescued From Chains and Pens (peta.org) — A recent weeklong animal-welfare push in and around Galax led to more than 250 local pets being spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, and dozens of backyard dogs getting better shelter and care. Now PETA is urgently seeking East Coast adopters and fosters for 10 rescued dogs, many first discovered chained or neglected in the Galax area. 
• Blue Devils split back-to-back matches (pmg-va.com) — Grayson County's Blue Devils volleyball team, a key program for many Galax-area families, split two recent matches, falling in five sets to Northwood before rebounding with a four-set district win over George Wythe. Strong performances from Savannah White, Madey Phipps, and Karlie Hawks helped the Blue Devils move to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in district play.
