• Goochland appoints deputy county administrator (wric.com) — Goochland County has promoted Elizabeth McDonald to serve as deputy county administrator over operations, overseeing key departments like IT, Parks & Recreation, Animal Protection, Human Services and the Assessor’s Office. McDonald, formerly the county’s public utilities director, stepped into the role May 15 and says she’s focused on supporting ongoing projects and serving residents with “excellence and care.”
   

• Assault firearm ban draws court challenges (insidenova.com) — Goochland’s commonwealth’s attorney and sheriff are among officials named in a federal lawsuit challenging Virginia’s new assault firearm ban, which is set to take effect July 1. Gun-rights groups argue the law violates the Second Amendment and conflicts with recent Supreme Court rulings, while additional challenges are also moving through state courts.
