The purpose of the EMS Advisory Board is to make recommendations to the State Board of Health on the administration of the statewide emergency medical care system, as well as emergency medical services vehicles used to provide transportation to persons requiring emergency medical
treatment. The EMS Advisory Board also reviews and makes recommendations on the Statewide Emergency Medical Services. In addition, the EMS Advisory Board is a formal liaison between the Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) and the public, ensuring that the OEMS understands and responds to public concerns and
that OEMS activities are communicated to the public.
Captain Simba joined the Alexandria Fire Department in 1988, becoming the first African American woman hired by the department. She currently serves as the EMS Training Captain, coordinating all EMS training for the Fire Department’s firefighters and paramedics. In addition to representing
the City of Alexandria, Captain Simba will also be serving on the EMS Advisory Board as a representative for the Virginia Fire Chief’s Association.
