Alexandria Man Gets 10 Years For Sexual Assault Of Woman

According to prosecutors, the man was a contractor for the victim when the sexual assault happened.

An Alexandria man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in her home, according to the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office in Loudoun County. Melvin Eliazar Moreno Rodriguez, 39, was sentenced on one count of aggravated sexual battery by force, threat, or intimidation with serious injury.

The incident reportedly happened on March 17, 2017, whe Moreno Rodriguez was a contractor in the victim’s home. The man sexually assaulted the victim while the other contractors were out for lunch, according to prosecutors The victim was fought him off and fled to get help.

Moreno Rodriguez’s DNA turned up on the victim’s chest during a following medical exam.

During the case, the victim and her father provided statements. The prosecutor detailed the significant physical injury and her continued post-traumatic stress disorder resulting from the assault.

"While physical injuries are more predictable when it comes to healing, each person subject to an attack such as this, often faces unknown trauma recovery," said Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman in a statement. "This sentence highlights and recognizes the 'unseen' injuries that victims and families must deal with in the aftermath of such an offense."

Moreno Rodriguez pleaded no contest to the charge and was found guilty earlier this year. The sentencing included an additional 10 years of suspended prison time as well as 15 years of supervised probation. He will be required to register as a sex offender.

A native of Guatemala, Moreno Rodriguez could be subject to a federal immigration detainer, resulting in his removal from the U.S.
