Arrest Made in Huntington Park Homicide Investigation

Police have arrested a suspect in the death of Khalid Aboumalik, 42, whose body was found Wednesday, Aug. 5 in Huntington Park in Fairfax County, according to a news release from the Fairfax County Police Department.

Homicide detectives charged Michael Norman Powell, 19, of Alexandria, with Second Degree Murder today (Thursday) in the killing of Aboumalik, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The suspect was captured by a task force of Fairfax County Police Fugitive Detectives and The U.S. Marshals Service, according to police. Powell is being held with no bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Police did not say what led them to Powell.

Aboumalik suffered apparent wounds and significant trauma to the upper body, police said. Police said last week that an autopsy was underway and have not released results, according to Fairfax County Police.

Aboumalik’s body was found in the park Wednesday, Aug. 5 in the morning, by residents in the area who called 9-1-1, police said.
