ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Friday is Cinco de Mayo, a holiday to celebrate a key Mexican military victory. Of course in the United States, it's a reason to celebrate with margaritas, tacos, dancing and more.

Many in the area will be heading out to happy hours Friday. If you're looking for a place to get in on the festivities, here are the top spots to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Greater Alexandria area, according to Yelp.

Those going out can also plan ahead to avoid drinking and driving. In the City of Alexandria, police will be enforcing DUIs as normal but have not announced any specific checkpoints, according to spokeswoman Laura Binz.

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program is offering free rides up to $15 on the Lyft App through the SoberRide Program. The program is meant to prevent drunk driving, particularly during high-risk times on holidays.

Rides are available from 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 5 until 4:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6. Riders 21 and up can use the code "CINCODC" in the Lyft app's promotion section. The code is valid for the first 1,500 Lyft riders.
