Police: Armed Burglary Suspect Shot by Homeowner

Police closed Lenore Lane while they investigated Tuesday morning incident.

UPDATE 5 p.m.: We’re updating with information from Fairfax County Police, released this afternoon:

Police responded to a home in the 5700 block of Lenore Lane for a report of a burglary at around 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, March 17.

Upon arrival, officers found that the apparent homeowner had encountered a stranger attempting to enter in his home. An altercation followed and the resident shot the stranger in the upper body with a handgun.

The injured man fled on foot towards Telegraph Road.

He attempted to flag down a passing yellow school bus, which was occupied by a small number of students. A nearby officer responded to the location, the intersection of Lenore and Telegraph, and immediately apprehended the suspect. The suspect was transported to a hospital where his injuries were described as non-life-threatening. Officers recovered the suspect’s apparent weapon; a stun gun.

Police identified the suspect as a 27-year-old Northern Virginia man and charges are pending further investigation.

The homeowner was identified as a 48-year-old man. He was not injured.

Fairfax County Police are investigating a shooting Tuesday associated with a possible burglary in the Groveton/Huntington area.

It appears that a possible home burglary was interrupted and the suspect shot. Media reports say the injured suspect attempted to board a bus on Telegraph Road before he was apprehended by police.

Police tweeted out this message Tuesday morning: “Police in the 5700 blk Lenore Ln for report of shots fired. Possible attempted burglary. Suspect in custody w/non life-threatening injuries.”

Later, police noted in a follow-up message on social media: “Update; All involved ID’ed in burg attempt nr Huntington area; both adult males; weapon recovered; no public safety threat”
