Do you love reading historic fiction? Join the Carlyle House staff quarterly for our free historical fiction book club. All books will be focused on 18th Century America and can be found at your local library or bookstore.

Our 2026 Books will be:
July 18th: Agent 355 by Marie Benedict &amp; 355: The Women of Washington’s Spy Ring by Kit Sergeant
October 17th: The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare

Program is free, donations are welcome. Space is limited so we just ask that you call 703-549-2997 or email <a href="mailto:carlyle@nvrpa.org">carlyle@nvrpa.org</a> to register so we know how many people to expect.

$10 per class

Join our yoga instructor for an hour long Yoga Class on Carlyle House’s Magnolia Terrace. A gentle flow yoga class. We will build heat with sun salutations then progress to balance, deep stretching and finally relaxation. Please bring water, a towel, and a yoga mat. Wear comfortable yoga wear.

Starting on April 25th, classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm and Saturdays at 9am and 10:15am. Class may be canceled due to inclement weather, you will receive an email if class is canceled. Tickets are non-refundable unless class is cancelled by the museum.

National Museum of the United States Army

During World War II, the drawing of a man with a long nose peeking over something, accompanied by the words “Kilroy was here,” surfaced on ships, vehicles, walls, and even enemy territory. The image spread to wherever American Soldiers were stationed in both the European and Pacific Theaters of Operation. Its prevalence came to symbolize the presence, perseverance, and commitment of the American military during the conflict.
Kilroy wasn’t the first nor the last example of Soldier graffiti. Soldiers have left their mark in various forms on furniture, equipment, and walls since the Revolutionary War. Their messages capture the basic human need to mark their existence and connect with others. Today, their messages serve as poignant reminders of their sacrifices and commitment to their country.
In this History Talk, explore the realities of wartime life and service through the lens of Soldier graffiti. Discover how their artwork offers an unfiltered window into the realities of wartime life and reflects broader themes of identity, resistance, and remembrance.

Nepenthe Gallery and Frame Shop

This is a blockbuster moment at Nepenthe Gallery as we welcome VICTOR EKPUK to share his artworks and his vast experiences. Victor is an internationally renowned artist who lives about one mile and a half from Nepenthe and whose studio is in Washington, D.C. He is celebrated for his diverse portfolio that spans paintings, drawings, sculptures, illustrations and monumental public art. Drawing inspiration from *Nsibidi”—-an indigenous ideographic script of southeastern Nigeria, his art functions as a visual language that bridges the gap between historical tradition and modern abstraction. Each piece is as fantastic as the next and we are overjoyed to partner with this multimedia artist whose works and career are destined to become legendary.

Staff members at Carlyle House Historic Park combine their knowledge to create bi-weekly trivia nights throughout the summer in the beautiful gardens of the Carlyle House. Test your knowledge on everything from pop culture to history.
Registration must be done in advance. Limited capacity so register early!
Tickets are $15 per person and include snacks and mocktails. Teams are limited to 6 people. No outside alcohol is allowed.&nbsp;
Each trivia night will have a different theme.&nbsp; There will be weekly prizes for the winning team as well as a grand prize for the team that wins the most points over the entire summer! Please note that 2026 Trivia Night at Historic Sites will be located at Carlyle House.
