Cockroaches And More Restaurant Violations In Greater Alexandria

Health inspectors found cockroaches and more at Alexandria area restaurants.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Fairfax County regularly conducts health inspections for local restaurants. The frequency of inspections on the type of food served and how it is prepared.

“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” states the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

Here are some of the violations from recent inspections in May. Among the violations were cockroaches, pesticides used in the restaurant, dirty dishes and floors, and foods not dated.

Reports are typically posted five to seven days after the inspections. Full reports are available on the health department’s website. Click on the violations to see each restaurant's results.

violations: improper cooling of chicken, tomatoes; potatoes observed hot holding at improper temperature; broccoli and cheese observed cold holding at improper temperatures; deli meats, rice and chicken not dated or discarded within 24 hours; raw-undercooked food disclosure not given on menu for eggs/burger, refrigerator not operating properly, dirty utensils and fryer baskets; dirty kitchen floor

violations: soups, meats observed hot holding at improper temperatures, foods not date marked, door of freezer damaged

Golden Hong Kong: 6396 Springfield Plz, Springfield, VA 22150, last inspection: May 10

violations: ice bin not cleaned properly, cockroach observed in dining room area and dish washing area

Manjoo: 5204 Port Royal Rd, SPRINGFIELD, VA 22151, last inspection: May 17

violation: food contact surfaces not sanitized

violations: numerous items uncovered in cooler, leaking sinks

violations: dented cans of olives and peppers, unlabeled cooking oil container, marina sauce observed hot holding at improper temperature, steak observed cold holding at improper temperature, washed pan with food debris and not properly sanitized, hand soap not provided at handwashing sinks, ventilation not effective enough to remove odors, floors under shelves need cleaning

violation: raw eggs stored over produce

Tango Pastry: 6100 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22303, last inspection: May 16

violations: non-food contact surfaces had accumulations of grime and debris, light bulb not covered by protective shielding to prevent shattering, cleaning products stored near food, pesticides present in the facility
