Crash Kills Pedestrian On Richmond Highway, Fairfax County's 23rd Fatality Of 2022
A pedestrian crossing outside a crosswalk was killed in a crash on Richmond Highway, police say.

GROVETON, VA — A pedestrian was killed in a crash on Richmond Highway in the Groveton area of Fairfax County Wednesday.
The crash happened around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at Richmond Highway and Beacon Hill Road. Police say the pedestrian was trying to cross the southbound lanes of Richmond Highway from west to east outside of the crosswalk. He was struck by a 2014 Nissan Altima heading south on Richmond Highway.
The pedestrian, Kim Hampton, 72, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. The driver remained on the scene of the crash.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol are factors in the crash based on early investigations. This was Fairfax County's 23rd pedestrian crash fatality in 2022. By comparison, there were 13 pedestrian fatalities at this time in 2021.
