Crime Data: How Springfield Mall Compares With Others
This is how Springfield Town Center compares with other malls in the D.C. area on crime.

SPRINGFIELD, VA -- Ever wondered which Northern Virginia malls are considered the most crime-ridden?
ABC7 has investigated 25 malls in the D.C. area and came up with the top malls with the highest crime in a two-year period. All were from Virginia.
Springfield Town Center is near the top of the list, at least in terms of assaults. Over two years, the mall had 69 assaults. But the good news is, assaults were in decline during 2016.

Here are the top malls and the number of assaults they saw over two years.
- Tysons Corner Center (Tysons): 99 assaults with decrease in 2016
- Springfield Town Center (Springfield): 69 assaults with decrease in 2016
- Potomac Mills (Woodbridge): 33 assaults with decrease in 2016
- Fashion Centre at Pentagon City (Arlington): 30 assaults. Thefts have dropped by 31 percent.
- Fair Oaks Mall (Fairfax): 26 assaults with decrease in 2016
- Dulles Town Center (Sterling): 17 assaults with decrease in 2016
- Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets (Leesburg): eight assaults but over 200 cases of shoplifting
Spokeswoman for Springfield Town Center Kimberly Baldy told ABC7 in a statement, "The Fairfax County Police Department and Springfield Town Center have a tremendous partnership with great communication which has resulted in identifying and arresting shoplifters. The safety and security of our shoppers is our top priority, and we will continue to work with the Fairfax County PD to create a safe and welcoming environment.”
