DC Cold Case Homicide Of Alexandria Resident Results In Arrest

Metropolitan Police charged a suspect for three cold case homicides in DC. One of the victims was an Alexandria resident.

WASHINGTON, DC — Metropolitan Police announced an arrest in the cold case homicide of an Alexandria resident and two other cases in Washington, DC.

The arrest is in relation to a homicide on March 15, 2008. Around 10:27 p.m., police responded to a shooting in the North Capitol and Evarts Street NE. Police found an adult man in a vehicle with apparent gunshot rounds. DC Fire and EMS found no signs of life.

The victim was identified as Reginald Gaither, 42, of Alexandria.

The suspect was connected to two other cold case homicides. One happened on Sunday, Aug. 30, 1992 in the unit block of T Street NW. The other happened Sunday, Dec. 10, 2010 in the 2900 block of Southern Avenue SE. The victim of the 1992 homicide was Charles Boulware, 29, of northwest DC, and the victim of the 2010 homicide was James Campbell, 25, of Bladensburg, Maryland.

On Wednesday, Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force worked with the Prince George’s County Police Department to arrest John Carrington, 53, of Clinton, Maryland for a homicide in Prince George's County. Based on Metropolitan Police's own investigation, Carrington was charged with two counts of first degree murder while armed and one count of felony murder in relation to the three cold cases.

Carrington was identified as the suspect in the killing of his mother in her Temple Hills, Maryland home. On Aug. 29, police had found Johnetta Wormley, 71, suffering from trauma inside her home. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Police also charged Carrington in a stabbing in Clinton, Maryland last Saturday and a gas station robbery attempt on Monday in Clinton.
