IDA works solely for U.S. government agency sponsors on national security and science policy issues. Its current sponsors include the departments of Defense, Commerce, Energy and Homeland Security as well as the Veterans Administration and National Security Agency.
The nonprofit corporation operates three federally funded research and development centers. The new building in the Potomac Yard area will serve as IDA's headquarters and will house the Systems and Analyses Center, one of the three federally funded research centers that IDA manages.
IDA’s new home will be near the future Potomac Yard Metro stop. Plenty of parking will be available for those who choose to drive. Staff and visitors will have access to more than 580 spaces with an extra 100 spaces available at an adjacent lot until the metro station opens.
The complex will have about 10 electric vehicle charging stations, with wiring that allows for expansion as demand increases.
The new building is being constructed to meet WELL Building standards, which focus on the health and wellness of building occupants. It is also designed with the intent of achieving LEED certification for sustainability.
