Domestic Violence Shelter Opens In Southern Fairfax County
The new shelter joins two others in the northern and central parts of Fairfax County.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VAāA new domestic violence shelter serving southern Fairfax County has opened. County officials marked the opening of Artemis House Region 1 on Monday, March 25.
Previously, Fairfax County had two domestic violence shelters: Artemis House in northern Fairfax County and Bethany House in central Fairfax County. The shelters have undisclosed locations to give domestic violence victims safe and secure shelter while they work on longer-term living arrangements. It also provides a safe location to begin recovery from trauma.
The effort was spearheaded by county officials and three women recruited by Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck: Mattie Palmore, Lisa Sales, Karen Stone and Kari Wright Warren. The shelter is in a renovated facility owned by the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority, WTOP reported.
