Driver Shot In Police Chase On GW Parkway
U.S. Park Police pursued a suspect that left the scene of a crash in Alexandria, with the chase ending in Fort Hunt.

FORT HUNT, VA—A driver was shot by U.S. Park Police following a pursuit on George Washington Memorial Parkway in the Fort Hunt area Friday night.
Police were pursuing a suspect involved in a crash near Slaters Lane and the GW Parkway in the City of Alexandria around 7:30 p.m., Sgt. James Dingeldein, a U.S. Park Police spokesperson, told reporters, according to The Washington Post. Police say the driver left the scene of the accident, leading to a pursuit ending in Fort Hunt. No injuries were reported in the initial accident, The Post reports.
The driver ended up leaving GW Parkway and crashed near Fort Hunt Road and Alexandria Avenue, where police shot the driver.

The driver went to the hospital in critical condition, NBC Washington reported. His identity has not been released. No police officers were injured, and the suspect was alone in his car.
It was unclear if the crash came before or after the shooting. The chase started around 7:42 p.m., and police did not say if it began at the scene of the original accident in Alexandria.
