Environmental Expo Returns To Fort Hunt Park In April

Mount Vernon District Dan Storck and the National Park Service will host this festival with a focus on environmental actions.

FORT HUNT, VA — Residents can learn about environmental and climate challenges as well as ways to help at the fourth annual Mount Vernon District Environment Expo Saturday.

The event, planned one day after Earth Day, will be hosted by Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck and the National Park Service at Fort Hunt Park, Pavilion A, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and sponsored by Clean Fairfax and Covanta Waste-to-Energy.

This free event will feature exhibitors, workshops, live music, live reptile and owl programs, electric vehicles, nature walks, the NPS Junior Ranger Program, recycle right, touch-a-truck, CCTV robot demonstrations, the purple glass monster for glass recycling, giveaways and more. Featured workshops will include reptile wonders, the secret garden birds & bees, NPS junior rangers, solar cooking demonstrations, and bird and nature walks.

For children's entertainment, the featured performer is Music by Billy B, the Natural Science Song and Dance Guy. Bill Brennan, known by kids as "Billy B," has performed since 1977, combining environmental education with entertainment to teach children about natural science, ecology and the environment.
